PSITTACIFORMES: Cacatuidae
Eolophus roseicapillus
When I spotted these Galahs wheeling in the sky in the distance, a flock about eight hundred to a thousand strong, I thought they were either Common Starlings or Budgerigars.
The formation perhaps didn't seem to have the fluidity of a flock of starlings or the ethereal quality of budgies and as I got closer I realised that I was watching the largest flock of Galahs that I'd ever seen.
They landed not far from the road and I slowly approached, knowing that it would be a spectacular sight when they took off and worth trying to photograph. It was a beautiful sight.
